Craig Fitzhugh was born in
Brownsville in 1950 and raised in Ripley,
graduating from Ripley High School in 1968.
He played varsity baseball, football, and
basketball. He graduated from the University
of Tennessee in 1972 with a Bachelor’s
Degree in Banking and Finance. He played centerfield
on the UT Freshman Baseball Team.
He graduated from law school at UT in 1975.
Fitzhugh served four years active duty in
the Air Force,
serving at bases in North Carolina and England
and was awarded the Air Force Commendation
Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. He remained in
the active reserve for eight years with the
rank of Major.
He returned to practice law in Ripley in
1980 and practiced until 1992 when he became
President and CEO of the Bank of Ripley. He
had been counsel for the bank.
Craig has been married
to Pam for 30 years. She is a Lauderdale
County native, who is a consultant for hearing-impaired
children with the Lauderdale County School
System. She previously worked in this capacity
for the Dyer County School System.
They have two children: Elizabeth, doing
her student teaching through UT Knoxville,
and Tom, a freshman at UT Knoxville.

Fitzhugh has long been active in
the community serving on various boards
including the Heart Fund, Cancer Society,
Tina Turner Family Center, Professional
Counseling Service, Lauderdale County
Chamber of Commerce and other service
organizations.
An Eagle Scout, he has been an assistant
scoutmaster since 1981. He was awarded
the Silver Beaver Award and is a Brotherhood
Order of the Arrow member and has completed
Woodbadge training.
He has served as the first chairman
of the Ripley and Lauderdale County
3-Star Committee.
He has coached Dixie Girls Softball
and Dixie Boys Baseball teams.
He is a 15-year sponsor of Duck’s
Unlimited and a former District and
Zone Chairiman.
He has served as president of the Lauderdale
County Chamber of Commerce and the Ripley
Rotary Club. He was named Jaycees’
Outstanding Young Man, FOP Man of the
Year, and Junior Auxiliary Person of
the Year.
He is a fourth generation member of
First Baptist Church, Ripley and serves
as Deacon and Chairman of Trustees.
He is a Sunday School teacher for High
School boys. |
